Tomorrow marks a one-year anniversary of pop stars Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez - a year since the world has known. On New Year's Eve, the young couple spent the night dancing together in New York City.
For Jan. 3, 2012 makes it one year since tween and teen girls in dozens of countries found out that yes, Justin Bieber was taken. It's not known precisely when the relationship started but on that date a year ago photos of Bieber and Selena Gomez holidaying together were published. The photos left no doubt.
Bieber and Gomez on St. Lucia: the Fallout
The two were in St. Lucia in the Caribbean on a luxury boat when the photographs were snapped, reportedly by a tourist who knew who they were. It could have been a member of the paparazzi though but that's not important. What is important is that the hearts of tens of thousands of young girls were broken. Yes, they knew the odds were slim but they got slimmer when the romance was confirmed. Besides, some said, it was nice to dream.
Gomez, a wonderful actor from the hit series 'The Wizards of Waverly Place' and a singer in her own right, was trashed by some Beliebers because at almost two years older than the then-16-year-old she was, many felt, robbing the cradle. There were reports of death threats against her but they seemed more like media enlarging foolish online remarks than anything serious.
Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez: Working Out
It's likely most young fans soon got over it. There had been, after all, rumors for 2 or more months so they were prepared for the worst. And the relationship, improbable due to their youth and place in the spotlight of North American and world culture, flourished. They are adorable together and devoted to one another in a mature manner beyond their years.
Since then she's taken him to Texas to meet his family and he her to a small city called Stratford to meet his. They've gone to one another's concerts and he took her to see an NHL hockey game - remember, he's Canadian - and on an exclusive date at the 20,000 seat Staples Center in L.A. where they dined and watched 'Titanic' on a massive screen. She took him to, well, to meet her new puppy dog. And each of their careers have continued to grow - and grow and grow.
Still Crazy (about each other) After a Year
There have been more rumors about the two having broken up than there are days in a year, but they remain together. The fact they spent time apart this holiday season fueled more rumors but fans don't seem as interested in the rumors any more. They read about them at awards shows together, on dates and at one another's concerts and they wish them well. They'll last or they won't but with the maturity they've both shown there will be no nasty split.
On New Year's Eve as the clock ticked toward 2012 each performed on a TV special, he on Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve with Ryan Seacrest (whew!), she on MTV. Afterwards they met and danced and partied at a New York establishment called The Glass House. Reports have it they held each other tight.
One year on and still crazy about each other.
