Singer Katy Perry and her husband of fourteen months, Russell Brand, are calling it quits. The couple has decided that it is time for them to get a divorce.
Russell Brand released a statement on Friday, saying that he and Katy have decided to end their marriage. Brand said that it is sad that they are ending their marriage. Brand went on and said that they will remain friends and he will always adore her.
Brand. 36, did not release any other details, according to ABC. However, the divorce papers were filed on Friday. Brand cited irreconcilable differences in the divorce papers.
Perry, 27, and Brand got married back in October 2010. The pair married at a tiger reserve located in India.
According to TMZ, there are community property assets, according to the divorce documents. This could be a sign that there was no prenup signed before the couple got married. If there is a prenup, then it will not cover earnings that they have accumulated during the time they were married. The documents does not say when the couple separated.
According to the Guardian, a spokesperson for Katy Perry was not immediately available for comment.
Earlier in December there were rumors going around that the marriage was in trouble. Brand chose to dismiss those rumors.
Brand even appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show, and he told her that he was married to Katy perpetually, and that part of the pledge was until death do them apart.
