On April 19, 1995, a bomb exploded outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City killing 168 people including 9 children. At that time, it was the worst act of domestic terrorism in America outside of war time, although it was of course dwarfed 6 years later by the atrocities of September 11.

Any and every terrorist outrage, especially one that results in enormous loss of life, will almost certainly result in all manner of cranks and conspiracy theorists
crawling out of the woodwork to give their 2 cents' worth. In the modern world, there are several prime candidates for such atrocities. In no particular order, the main ones are as follows:
1) The New World Order - this can be referred to by several names including the Jew World Order (for those with one track minds) and the Illuminati. These conspirators
- who do exist
- are said by some to be behind almost every major act of terror in the modern world and much else besides.
2) The government - usually the American Government. The purpose of the government murdering its own people including its own servants in indiscriminate acts of terror is usually seen as a pretext for passing Draconian laws in order to turn the country into a police state.
3) The Nazis or some not so right wing, racist
conspiracy...on second thoughts, let's stop with the government or we'll be here all day. For those interested in other conspiracies (and the fertile imaginations behind them) try here

This documentary is partly a review of a film The Noble Lie
, and partly interviews with people who were there or thereabouts, including police officers. Unfortunately, the film is endorsed by Alex Jones!
There is a lot here, so the reader is advised to check it out for himself. Two of the more credible allegations made are that the ATF was maintaining an illegal armoury in the targeted building, and that the FBI and/or other agencies latch onto disaffected people, largely through the Internet, and incite them to commit terrorist acts. They are then arrested, and guess who looks good? Does anyone believe this and should we? Ask Mark Kennedy
. Or someone an undercover police officer has incited
to commit a serious crime.
Is it possible that the FBI or some government agency had foreknowledge of McVeigh's murderous attack and decided to allow him to run with it hoping to catch him in the act, and made a terrible miscalculation? Yes, it is possible, but don't let's make allegations of that nature without hard evidence, which is of course unlikely ever to surface.
It remains to be seen if police officers' lives were threatened by mysterious government agents or if anyone, one police officer in particular, was actually murdered as part of this great cover up.
There are two issues this documentary does not raise: the obsessive secrecy of the government and the alternative to conspiracy, which is cock-up. The combination of the two is responsible for a lot of conspiracy mongering.
The last word is left to retired police officer Don Browning: “...our integrity and loyalty are the only two things that we have to sell to the American public”.
Anyone who has ever been on the business end of policing, in America, Britain or anywhere else, will realise what a hard sell that will be.
