Authorities have issued a citywide tactical alert after 19 suspected arson fires erupted in Hollywood and West Hollywood overnight. Police arrested an arson suspect a day earlier but fear there could be accomplices carrying out the latest round of fires.
The Los Angeles Times reports that 4 fires were started in Hollywood and 15 fires were started in the city of West Hollywood, many of which were vehicle fires. One property that was affected was the former home of late rocker Jim Morrison of The Doors.
Police had arrested Sunland resident Samuel Arrington, 22, early Thursday morning in connection with four fires started that day.
According to NBC Los Angeles, three of the fires started in Hollywood early Thursday were reported within 15 minutes of one another.
However, since Arrington's arrest, a rash of more fires broke out in the area overnight. Police do not yet have any suspects or leads in the latest fires.
Authorities are unsure if the newest fires were started by accomplices of Arrington or copycats.
It is estimated that the fires have caused over $100,000 in property damage.
