article imageVideo: Ben Breedlove tells the story of his life before he dies

By JohnThomas Didymus     Dec 29, 2011 in Lifestyle
Austin - Ben Breedlove, 18, died on Christmas night from a heart attack. He had three near-death experiences over the course of his short life. Before he died, he recorded a video of his life, his illness and near-death experiences.
CBS News reports that Breedlove was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) early in his life. HCM causes the heart walls to thicken, making it difficult for the heart to pump blood.
In the first part of his video, titled "This Is My Story," uploaded on December 18, the teenager from Austin, Texas, is shown looking into the camera, holding up a card with words written in blue marker, while Gary Jules' "Mad World" plays in the background. The card says: "Hello, I'm Ben Breedlove. All my life I've had a heart condition." He continues: "As I grew older, I learned more that it is dangerous. It has scared me a lot, and I hate that feeling."
Breedlove tells of the restrictions to his lifestyle because of his illness with sadness: "I was never allowed to play all the sports that my friends did. It kinda sucks that I missed out on that part of my life. I really just hoped that I could be the same as everyone else."
He tells of his first near-death experience at four: "The first time I cheated death was when I was four." He says he saw a bright light during his near-death state: "I couldn't take my eyes off it, and I couldn't help but smile. I had no worries at all, like nothing else in the world mattered."
In the second part of the video, Breedlove tells us of his last near-death experience: "I was at school, walking in the hall. I could tell I was going to faint, so I sat on a bench. I passed out. The next thing I know, I woke up with EMS around me. I couldn't talk or move, I could only watch what they were doing. They put the shock pads on my chest. I heard one of them say 'They are ready'. And the other guy said Go! I passed out again. My heart stopped and I wasn't breathing for 3 MINUTES. I really thought to myself. This is it. I'm dying."
Breedlove tells us that when the heart stops the brain continues functioning for some time before death.
In a near-death experience, he sees himself wearing a white suit while standing with his favorite rapper Kid Cudi. He says: "The first thing I thought was Damn, we look GOOD! I then looked in the mirror, I was proud of myself of my entire life, everything I have done. It was the BEST feeling."
Ben was finally revived by EMS, but he was not happy about it. He says: "I wish I NEVER woke up...Do you believe in angels or God?"
CBS News reports Rapper Kid Cudi posted a message on his blog after he heard of Ben's death: "I am so sad about Ben Breedlove. I watched the video he left for the world to see, and him seeing me in detail, in his vision really warmed my heart...To Ben’s family, you raised a real hero, he’s definitely mine. You have my love."
Experts describe near-death experiences as embracing a variety of experiences which occur most often after an individual has come very close to death or pronounced clinically dead. Daily Mail reports that a Gallup poll shows that about 8 million Americans claim to have had a near-death experience. Near-death experience often involves sensation of detachment from body, levitation, serenity, security and warmth, presence of light and sometimes fear.
The Los Angeles Times also reports that before his death, Breedlove started a YouTube channel, Breedlovetv, where he talked about his friends, his younger siblings, his first date, his spirituality and his heart condition.
