CBS News reports that the man began acting erratically, prompting the ambulance driver to pull over in the center divider.
According to
KABC, once the ambulance had stopped, the man proceeded to exit out the back of the ambulance while being completely nude. He managed to scale a concrete divider and cross the freeway onto a connector road.
After an officer was unable to subdue him, he continued running and jumped in front of a moving truck. The man was killed on impact.
Authorities have been unable to determine what may have caused the man's sudden irrational behavior, and his name has not been released.
Earlier this year, a similar
incident occurred when a 17-year-old boy in California ejected himself from an ambulance traveling at speeds of around 70 mph on a freeway. After being recovered, he was taken to a hospital and put on life support.
Another
case of ambulance-jumping took place in Jan. 2010, when a Texas man jumped from a moving ambulance and was killed after suffering severe head trauma.
