A Republican Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner has apologized to Michelle Obama for saying she has a "large posterior." He was overheard saying over phone at the Reagan National Airport, “She lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself."
Rep. Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin was commenting on the First Lady's nationwide campaign against childhood obesity "Let's Move!"
CBS reports a website Fishbowl DC, says an unnamed Democratic operative heard Sensenbrenner speaking "very loud" while talking on phone in the Delta Crown lounge at Reagan National Airport. According to unnamed source, Sensenbrenner had been describing on phone his response to someone who had praised the first lady's campaign initiative. Sensensbrenner was in effect implying that Mrs. Obama did not practice what she preached.
The State Column reports that a spokeswoman for Sensenbrenner Amanda Infield, on Wednesday, reacted to the news report that originated from Fishbowl Dc. The spokeswoman said: “Mr. Sensenbrenner was referring to the First Lady’s healthy food initiative. He doesn’t think the government should be telling Americans what to eat. While he may not agree with all of her initiatives, he plans to contact the First Lady’s office to apologize for his comments."
New York Post reports that Michelle Obama not only launched the "Let's Move!" initiative which encourages kids to eat well, but she has also been vocal in the $400 million Healthy Food Financing Initiative, which aims to bring healthy food vendors to urban and rural areas.
Sensenbreener, according to CBS, said: "I regret my inappropriate comment and I have sent a personal note to the First Lady apologizing."
