article imageEvicted: Courtney Love told to leave home

By Tim Sandle     Dec 16, 2011 in Entertainment
New York - Courtney Love, the US singer and actor, is being evicted from her townhouse in Manhattan's West Village. Reportedly Love set part of the house on fire and caused damage to the interior.
Love is being evicted from her $27,000-per-month home in Manhattan. This follows reports of Love causing damage to the property and comes in the form of the property owner (Donna Lyon) serving and eviction notice. The house is known for the quality of its interior design and was celebrated in a 2009 edition of 2009 Elle Décor.
As reported in The Daily Mail, the damage that Love is alleged to have caused to the $8 million West Side property includes setting fire to a pair of curtains due to a candle in June and, more recently, re-decorating the walls when her lease prohibited any changes to the décor. The house had been hand painted and glazed by the designer Steven Gambrel. As The New York Post confirmed, one of the conditions of the rental was that none of the interiors were to be altered.
According to the property’s owner Lyon, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter: "Courtney has wallpapered and painted a large portion of the property without my consent. I learned about this when I wanted to sell the house and had photographs taken. They sent me the brochure and I said, 'This can’t be my property.' I came to New York to see it and I was horrified by what she had done."
Not only is Love, aged 46, accused of causing damage to the historic building (circa 1827) she is also, according to The Rolling Stone, in debt in terms of rent to the tune of $54,000 in rent.
The dispute is set to be resolved in a civil court in New York on 21 December.
Love, born Courtney Michelle Harrison (July 9, 1964) is an actor and rock singer, perhaps more famous for being married to Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain and a subsequent string of famous lovers, than for her own music. Nonetheless, Love’s rock band Hole has enjoyed some success with the album Celebrity Skin reaching the US, Canadian and Australian Top Ten, and falling just short in the UK at#11, in 1998.
Love’s relationships have included guitarist Billy Corgan (of the Smashing Pumpkins), actor Edward Norton, Trent Reznor (of the Nine Inch Nails), and comedian Steve Coogan (most known for portraying the character Alan Partridge).
This story, whether proved in court or not, is another tale in Love’s interesting, turbulent and often controversial life.
