Some argue that globalization is not a new phenomenon yet it’s affect on the 21st century is undeniably innovative in its cross cultural influence.
The transmission of information had always been apparent in the early stages of the pre-modern history where knowledge was spread in different empires and established brilliant philosophical achievements; yet today this technological innovation has taken a huge stretch in compressing time and space into fractions of minutes or even seconds. This techno era has introduced the internet and has opened doors for all sorts of social media interaction reshaping the process of culture into a transformational level where news in society is not just news anymore, it is a social movement. This is increasingly evident in the recent global events of the Occupy movements that have configured old autocrat perspectives, and yet perhaps what is more important today is that globalization has an enormous effect on reshaping our social interactions in society, molding it into better or worse, depending on which left or right side you want to take. This particular developed or developing process has changed the world forever, and because of it, we have configured many concepts of globalism, individualism, and capitalism. Part of the global issue today is that we have grown callous to the surroundings of historical and outdated political events with the increasing distractions of what our social justice system looks like, never minding other humanitarian concerns due to the superiority of our social advancements. Yet it’s not quite clear how society views this concept of globalization and to what extent it is indeed applied globally. Perhaps this phenomenon is so popular in the West where only “Americanized” corps and systems benefit while other developing countries have yet to witness the positive effects of globalization. If this concept was meant to expand and liberate global society, than it has not done a good job of expanding its objective into occupied land.
Thomas Freidman’s The Lexus and the Olive Tree explored the importance of linking heritage of traditions and habits to modern society composed of microchips and machines. The idea is that before globalization and the intensification of science and technology, human beings were basic and wanted nothing more than to belong to a tribe, group, or land and to simply call this belonging a “home”. The association between concepts of globalization and societal symbolic forms are representing key identification of culture and individualism. This basic identification that linked human beings back to their roots is currently elapsed with multi-million dollar corporations sucking the life out of the working class and draining the social system to the ground while toppling the hierarchy gap between the rich and the poor. It is no longer a question of belonging to a certain group or kin, globalization has reshaped the idea of belonging by tagging market stocks, capital, and the free market of goods and services into a progressive goal. Friedman discussed two groups in society, one concerned with materialistic objects coded as the “Lexus”, and the other group is concerned with maintaining their land, which to them perhaps meant something larger, like preserving their identity by grasping on to their roots; he called this group the “olive tree”.
In Western societies today, perhaps the Lexus is more popular than the Olive tree. If we were to inspect closely, wars have raged over these two groups for a long time and if things were to be settled, the causal root of problems must be examined. Edward Said in The Question of Palestine brought a historical insight into this political conflict, dating back to 1979 where he drew similarities between the Orient and Europe. To be Oriental meant that one belonged to a certain culture, religion, and politics, with some define distinct physical characteristics, drew a line between Greece and Turkey and separated Europe from this Orient concern. At least this was how Europe viewed this Eastern apprehension and later divided an entire country into subdivisions. This region was Palestine and its people were Arab Palestinians with a majority practicing Islam. Perhaps the date that Said referred to was more than 30 years short of what was about face the future with all its massive transmission of sequence. Conceivably this globalization has failed to deliver promised universal liberty and has yet to put an end to the mounting Orient discrimination. The truth of the matter is that within all these technological and science advancements, the globe has paused since 1918 when Said referenced the European powers to be in colonial occupation of about 85 percent of the globe. The only difference between then and now is that this 85 percent of global power is in the hands of the Americans. Capitalism existed during that time, but the term colonialism was more in order. Many changes have been made since Europe decided the fate of Palestine, a less dated, uncivilized, and traditional land of the poor as it was seen. Zionism and Israel decided that this land could be reconstructed to fit them as a “developed and more deserving power”.
After the European subdivisions of the Palestinian land, a bigger power came into play reshaping global power into one huge propaganda basis. Palestine became an Arab and Islamic country by the seventh century, one attitude has stuck through until the 21st century, the fear of Islam that has reshaped the doctrine of human rights and Arab identity. To avoid recognition of Palestinian rights, Arab terrorism was more favored. This propaganda to sell individuals in society stipulated thoughts towards who deserved the land more came from associating negative characteristics to Palestinians, sometimes making them seem to be the refuges that are nomadic and gratuitous. This misleading information advocated fear, doubtless fear of the resurgence of Islam into the public. That was enough for individuals in the West to believe that Zionism and Israel deserved this promised land- whether this land belonged to the Palestinians in the beginning or not, that didn’t matter. For anyone who supported the Arab Muslim Palestinians in the West, according to Said, were left with the poorest alternatives, negative, anti-Semitic, and apologist for Islam and the Arabs. That is how the world viewed Palestine and that is how it continues to view Palestine today. Springzak, citing a recent Israeli study on suicide terrorists concluded that “male, religious, unemployed” individuals are the reasons for terrorism. Their reasons are driven from a steaming societal hopelessness and despair, and for that, accounts of terrorism are followed through. Perhaps there seems to be a misunderstanding; terrorism is not a new terminology since the September 11 attack, it has been evident since the Ottoman Empire and the European supremacy. It is not a question of whether these individuals are acting upon a “recent” counterattack and it is not a matter of a defensive globalization, it is simply linked to making Palestinians look like a major threat to the social order and with the success of this, in return deny the reality that this population has an permanent deserving bond with the land. It is a carefully studied fixed label that would carry on forever, for as long as any individual represented him or herself as an Arab Muslim Palestinian, or just an Arab or a Muslim today. Just how brutal these labels were I think were stated by Said in 1979:
Much recent history involves the Palestinians, and like their present actuality, it is a history dispersed in likely and unlikely places. No foreign affairs symposium, scholarly books, or moral attitude taken is complete without some reference to Palestinian terrorism. Any self-respecting director planning a film on some current, and probably invented, enormity would not pass up the occasion to introduce a Palestinian into his cast as a sort of car-carrying terrorist.
For the West, the idea is quite different, globalization is merely defined by capitalism. This very popular word has circulated the streets of small and large towns globally, interestingly enough when many of the lower classes were clueless of what “capitalism” meant, but in all means knew what it stood for. The objection of civility today is regarded towards the watchmen of the bigger properties- the financial markets, the uneven economic distributions, and the social and capital inequalities. The very famous phrase occupy is interesting in all its aspects of historical context. To occupy is to establish full sovereignty over territory or space, which adequately wraps this up back to the Palestinian and Israeli conflict. The propaganda surrounding the fate of foreign colonialism is not much different than the heat of the new media of the modern century. There evidently remains this huge resistance of fixed stereotypes to disapprove the acceptance of any confess to a Palestinian state, or even Palestinian people. This major inattentive belief has supplied to global ignorance, where some ignore it, and some pretend they don’t see it. It is consequently difficult to be blind and mute at the same time, where the question of Palestine is held thin between affirmation and denial, the world pretends to be unaware of the cruelty of Zionism and the Israeli state.

The power of possession and reconstruction has conquered the intellects of this society and therefore signs of extreme capitalism and supremacy exist on American soil. The reason there is a shift of reference from Israel to the U.S. so promptly is due to the fact that undoubtedly they exist and co-exist jointly, and that certainly, they operate under the same political umbrella. The occupy movements have resented the capitalist system of the manifest hunger steaming from Wall Street due to a great amount of manipulation, deceive, and a whole lot of greed. I can’t help but draw similarities between the domination of capitalism in the American system and the occupy resemblance of the Israeli scheme. Somehow capitalism and occupancy are correlated and they happen to be, in clear and abstract forms. Sovereignty seems to be not only a unique tactic used against the Palestinians, but against the Americans as well. The manipulation of a capitalist system serves its own individual and collective interest to accentuate on a bigger picture the idea of control and power. The state and inter-states are then reduced considerably and weakened to those who obtain lower positions. Israel, like a true capitalist system, uses its resources of strategy planning by occupying American media. Its private association with the United States is based on forms of commodity and surplus value and manipulation is practiced in many forms here, deflating the intent of actions away from the public and media sphere through the use of language, framing, and context is one of them. The success of Israeli deceive is established through the American arrangement by reshaping the transmission of information from Israeli territorial sovereignty and war crimes in West Bank, East-Jerusalem and Gaza into a defensive style of legitimacy. This political system is hostage to the Zionist lobby and nothing communicated from these media outlets is at all in favor of reshaping the peace in the Middle East and bringing compromises to the discussion table. Let’s never get that wrong.
States have also developed special rules for a capitalist system to operate externally without free-market interference. In a way the states fund key enterprises to gain sustained power in order to benefit its social economy, very much resembling the United States foreign aid to Israel. Economic and political intensification has reshaped this strong relationship between the U.S and Israel and this support has helped Israel encompass power by aiding its military assistance. The resemblance of capitalism is obvious, the states support capitalist movements in order to achieve greater commodity on its behalf, or else, they would have developed strict rules and regulations for prohibitions and confiscation of unequal growths and benefit. There are no threats or a world government monitoring these intermediate degrees of powers, and favoritism will not benefit the U.S’s bilateral relationship in the years to come when its foreign debt burden will give rise to China. Anyone who is familiar with the establishment of the People’s Republic of China will know that China’s interaction with the Middle East, and particularly Palestine, is supportive of the liberation and independence, and until that happens, the ticking clock is in full play.
There are unique tactics that naturally take place to operate a capitalist system that are not concealed from the public, but are unrestricted. Theft and confiscation, legal constraints and property damage are the best procedures of capitalist system. Perhaps process is undervalued, manoeuvrings is more skillful. There are ways enterprises keep their capital protected from theft, whether this was stolen, confiscated, or taxed. They adopt protection rent in order to invest in private security systems and guarantee a systematic flow of cash entry. There is a security advantage to this that resembles the ploy Israel masters well. By sharing a bilateral relationship with the States, being a member of the United Nations and a signer of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights would guarantee full protection bonus from any and all human rights violation that Israel commits on Palestinian grounds. This advantage has protected Israel from the intervention of world justice and the silence of the U.N towards its hostility. Like enterprises, the system is manipulated in such a way where advantage is always on the winning side of the crooks.
The modern sovereignty of a capitalist world-system is not mastered easily without legal constraint. This is typically adopted by big corporations in order to transform the economic transactions on the market and regulate its import and export. They use this method to decree or forbid monopolies while they create their own allocation so nobody can tell the difference between this and a free market. The guarded power of capitalism has considerable amount of control on the working class. By reducing their efficacy and deceiving workers into believing they are allocating much of the concessions when they are not, a major social class hierarchy and unequal disposition of social class equity is in effect. There is a great amount of deception that takes place by an overpowering ruling entity that is not so surprising at all. What’s not even more surprising is the direct link between the legal constraints of a capitalist system and Israeli’s occupancies of Palestinian land that impose minimal movement by forming territorial divisions. The Israeli occupation also took a stretch in restricting the legal system by dictating strict military laws and orders. Aside from the obvious, because somehow presenting facts like this undermine the actuality of the bigger horror picture, the increasing frequency of the idea that Israel was built on the residue of the Palestinians unmistakably implies that a dissolve was in order to implement a new Jewish state. By presenting these new implementations and reforms, the Jewish state can legally reject to acknowledge the census of the population that were in Palestine way before forcing a majority of Jews on the country and therefore restricting their movement. Yet if movement was the only existing problem then perhaps there would have been ways to get around that, but the legal constraint cannot be implemented fully without a huge increase in demographics. To legitimize Zionism is to give rise to large increasing numbers of the Jewish population. Through controlled checkpoints and curtailing Palestinian movement, this has devastated the Palestinian economy. Employment opportunities are eliminated from discussion and therefore a social class hierarchy does not exist at all in Palestine.
The capitalist system can also distort the market whenever it wants. This means that any infrastructure or property damage it creates, the states offers entrepreneurs the break of not paying the costs. So if an entrepreneur decides to pollute a water stream, the state then passes these costs down to society at large, where the expenses of infrastructure are not imposed on the collectively of the recipient but on all taxpayers. Perhaps it is clear the distinction I’m trying to make here without needing many words to further explain. The amount of infrastructure and property damage Israel has caused Palestine to date surpasses figure predictions and yet what is more disparate and illegal is the equipment used in order to cause property destruction. Israel has been examined and reported numerous times due to violation of international law in the occupied land of West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem but remains like a capitalist state that no world government can subdue due to special advantages between interstate systems.
Monopoly is the only advantage capitalist systems obtain from the state. Control functions on the essence of this uneven structure and the maintenance of order plays a big role. The only difference between Israel and capitalism here is that a capitalist state reduces its force and increases its amount of deception and concessions while the Israeli government increases its control and force jointly with its deceptions and manipulation strategy. How can we possibly discuss the great effects of globalization in the 21st century when justice is overlooked and often dismissed? World globalization is meant to enhance the implementation of human rights and seek equality and justice and form substantial forms of civil, social, and economic rights. Why hasn’t it done that yet for Palestine? And why are states attempting to support a dominated capitalist system such as Israel while they are aware of the inhumane and callous procedures that proceed? Perhaps this leaves me to question my first point, is globalization really effective or have we become so immune to the capitalist part of it that we overlook key fundamental humanitarian rights? We must continue to fight against domination and all forms of capitalist systems no matter how they represent themselves into global society. If globalization is conceived to connect the world and remove barriers, it must then reach occupied land and territories and bring justice into the prosperity of all corners of the globe together through the spread of democracy, justice, and freedom. That is what it stands for, and that is what the books preach, yet the facts of history are not aligned within these classifications.
