Conservative politician serves as sperm donor for lesbian couples

By Kevin Fitzgerald     Dec 13, 2011 in Politics
Bill Johnson, a former Republican gubernatorial candidate from Alabama, has been secretly donating his sperm to lesbian couples in New Zealand.
Johnson moved to New Zealand earlier this year to help provide aid to victims who were affected by an earthquake in February.
Johnson has allegedly been using a secret alias to meet women who wish to become pregnant with his sperm.
He has also managed to keep the secret from his wife, who is a former Mrs. Alabama.
Yahoo! News reports that Johnson proclaimed his opposition to gay marriage while he was running for governor.
According to the New Zealand Herald, Johnson has donated to nine different women, three of whom are currently pregnant. Some of the women include lesbian couples.
Johnson's wife, who is still in the United States, is unable to have anymore children due to a hysterectomy. She has three children from a previous relationship.
Johnson explains:
"I am married to the most beautiful woman in the world. When I married her I knew we couldn't have any more children. She had a hysterectomy 10 years ago.
"There is nothing my wife would want to give me more in the world than a child of my own."
Johnson's secret was discovered when an anonymous person sent emails to a publication detailing Johnson's secret life. He says he had planned to tell his wife about the news after the children whom he had fathered were born.
His wife says that she is shocked and hurt by the news, and says that there is a lot of healing to be done.
