Saint Petersburg - Two thieves attempted to steal a car from a couple in Florida. The thieves ran into trouble, though, when they realized that the car they wanted to steal was a stick shift, which neither of them knew how to drive.
According to UPI, the incident took place early Friday morning at around 1:00 am, when a man was dropping off a business truck at his job. His girlfriend showed up to pick him up in her stick shift Nissan.
As the couple were about to drive away, the two thieves approached them while brandishing a gun and told them to get out of the vehicle.
The St. Petersburg Times reports that the thieves demanded a cell phone and their money, but were only able to get the cell phone. They also wanted to steal the woman's car, but as they tried to drive it away, they were unable to because neither of them knew how to drive a stick shift.
After a frustrating effort of trying to get the car in gear, they gave up on the idea of stealing the car and fled the scene on foot, only taking the woman's cell phone with them.
The two thieves are still at large.
