Toronto - A call to Toronto Police about a single car collision during the early morning hours brought officers to the scene of Toronto's latest homicide. In the middle of quiet Unwin Avenue was a young woman clinging to life.
Constable Tony Vella said during a phone interview prior to the victim being identified that she was a young adult. While the initial call to police was about a car accident the victim did not appear to have been in such an accident.
Emergency crews quickly transported the victim, 23, to St. Michael's Hospital where she died hours later.
A post-mortem exam revealed that the woman, identified as Leanne Freeman of Winnipeg, died from a gunshot wound.
Police are now investigating the final hours of Ms. Freeman's life.
