The highly anticipated year end boxing event scheduled for December 3, 2011 is a go after New York State boxing medical board gives the OK for the fight to happen.
Three years ago, a fight took place between Cotto and Margarito that changed boxing history. Not only was it Miguel Cotto's first ever loss during a fight, but it was also a highly controversial fight where Antonio Margarito was suspected of cheating during the fight by applying plaster to his hand wraps in order to land stronger, heavier hits.
Last year, Margarito stepped into the ring with Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao, where he was defeated and left with a broken orbital bone. Two days later he underwent surgery to fix the broken bone and, after six months, he underwent a second surgery to remove a cataract in the eye and implant a lens.
With the second fight scheduled between the two boxers for December 3, 2011, the actuality of the fight was still in question. Numerous licensing agencies expressed concern with the eye. A medical exam took place earlier this week in New York City in order to determine if Antonio Margarito was able to fight.
After undergoing the medical exam, the New York State Boxing Commission gave the go ahead for the fight.
The fight is scheduled to take place December 3, 2011 on Pay-per-View television. This is believed to be the fight of the year.
