The third Belfast meeting was October 26, at Whites Tavern; the next meeting is at the Belfast Occupy “Wall Street” camp. While these occupy people mean well, it is clear that only a tiny percentage of them understand what is actually wrong with the financial system. The usual proposals of increased taxation on “the rich” or even on the banks are not real solutions. Taxing the rich more would actually make the current economic malaise even worse because increased taxation reduces investment. Even taxing the banks doesn't help; there is a need for fundamental but simple changes to be made to the way new money is created, as Ben Dyson
pointed out in his critique of the fantasy peddled by bankster
Bob Diamond.
