Police Chief Nadeem Baig, confirmed the arrest was made on Thursday. The police, according to Nadeem Baig, recovered a cooking bowl of raw human flesh, and the knife the women used to chop up the flesh into small pieces. BBC
reports that some parts of Ahmad Abass had already been "cooked in a broth."
reports police chief Nadeem Baig, said:
“They killed Ahmed Abbas, Zainab's husband, and chopped his body into pieces and were about to cook the flesh in a bowl."
There are conflicting accounts about the motive behind the crime. IOL News
reports that the woman killed her husband after he tried to marry another woman without her permission. BBC
reports that the man had attempted to rape the woman's daughter from an earlier marriage (i.e. his stepdaughter). The two stories may be reconciled by considering the practice in Islamic countries of legitimizing illicit sexual relationship through marriage. However, Islamic law requires that a man must seek permission of his first wife before marrying a second. IOL News
reports that this law is only very rarely observed by Muslim men.
Footage of the cooking bowl filled with human flesh, ready for the cooking fire, was shown on Pakistan's Television networks. CNN
reports that Pakistan's satellite channel ARY News, spoke to the woman. The woman said she killed Ahmad Abbas because he was going to have sexual relationship with his stepdaughter (i.e. Zainab Bibi's daughter). CNN
reports that Bibi, who said she did not regret her action, said:
"I killed my husband before he dared to touch my daughter."
Police, according to BBC
, believe that Zainab killed her husband by drugging him. CNN
reports, however, that the women stabbed the man to death. Police chief Nadeem Baig speculated on the emotions that might have turned Bibi into a cannibal:
“There could be two factors behind her intention to cook the husband. One is to destroy the evidence and the other could be her immense hatred against him."
