article imageOp-Ed: The Twilight Saga — Breaking Dawn, Part 1, comes up short

By Thom W. Conroy     Nov 22, 2011 in Entertainment
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 is yet another chapter in an interesting genre of film, but this episode comes up a bit short.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 is the latest installment of the wildly popular theatrical series and is currently tops at the box office, but this certainly cannot be based on the overall quality of the movie. While The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 is not a horrible film, it is not exactly "Gone With The Wind" either.
Twilight begins with our hero and heroine played by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart getting married and heading off to their honeymoon where Stewart's character Bella becomes pregnant. The only snag is that the unborn child is a vampire, which in turn makes the opposing werewolf camp decide it must die. Through a number of mundane twists and turns an agreement is reached that allows the pregnancy to continue, and the movie ends with the Bella character apparently turning into a vampire as a result of carrying a vampire fetus.
While die-hard Twilight fans will eat this plot up, those seeking really good entertainment will most likely come away from this movie feeling a bit empty. In essence, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 is really the plot of a made for television movie with excellent production features. On a scale of one to five this movie rates a three.
