Antofagasta - A woman taking a driving test to obtain her driver's license ended with her vehicle at sea; the municipal inspector who was in the vehicle with her at the time of the accident fled the scene.
While traveling along the waterfront of the city of Antofagasta, in the north of Chile, and at the time she was approaching an intersection, the woman who was at the time completing her driver’s licence examination, pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. The unexpected result caused her to completely lose control of the vehicle, go through a metal fence and sink into the sea near the fisheries terminal of this port city. The municipal instructor who was evaluating her driving skills also went with her into the ocean.
"There were very tense moments as the driver could not undo her seat belt and the vehicle was sinking under large bubbles in front of several onlookers," reported an Antofagasta news website (In Spanish).
The freak accident happened this morning (Monday 21) at about 9:10 AM and caused the prompt action of witnesses and the mobilization of emergency personnel to help the woman get out of the truck and to recover the vehicle from the ocean.
