article imageOp-Ed: Perth — A Hidden Gem

By Jesse Rutigliano     Nov 19, 2011 in Travel
Known world wide as ‘The city of lights’, Perth, Western Australia is the most isolated city in the world, contains one of the richest sources of coal in the world, is the 8th most livable city in the world.
And yet when last months Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting took place, a lot of people hadn’t heard of this beautiful, tranquil, accepting city.
Perth is one of the Western worlds fastest growing cities, it has innumerable developments underway. The foreshore reconstruction, The Northbridge link, East Perth gateway and a new 65,000 seat sports stadium.
The CHOGM meetings last month were a fantastic opportunity for Perth to show the Commonwealth and important political figures that it can hold successful world class events.
The CHOGM induced police neutralizing of the occupy Perth protests should be commended by all Perthites. There was little incident, with the protesters coming together to sing songs and voice their political opinions.
CHOGM was a huge endoursment for Perth and Western Australia in general. It was the biggest event for the city since the winning of the Americas Cup in 1983 and the hosting of it in 1987.
Perth is on a steady path of future glory, all it needs is for some global recognition.
