In the latest twist and turn of the saga that seems to be playing out in Happy Valley, the son of former football coach Joe Paterno announced that his father is suffering from lung cancer.
ESPN is reporting that Joe Paterno's son, Scott Paterno, has issued a statement that the former head coach of Penn State Football has been diagnosed with having lung cancer. Just a little over a week after being fired from his position at Penn State University over the Jerry Sandusky allegations, this is just the latest twist in a series of stories and issues that have been unfolding for nearly two years.
Joe Paterno is 84 years of age, and according the to American Cancer Society, lung cancer is the second most common form of cancer for both men and women.
In the statement written by Scott Paterno, but delivered by a family spokesperson, he was quoted as saying, "his doctors are optimistic he will make a full recovery."
The statement went on to read that Paterno was currently under treatment to combat the illness.
