Norcross - In a story just in time for the holidays, a 17-year-old boy who was allegedly trying to burglarize a home in Georgia tried to enter the home through a chimney and became trapped.
The incident began at around 3:00 am early Tuesday morning when the boy decided to attempt an entry into the home by entering through a chimney.
The Gwinnett Daily Post reports that hours later, a woman called 911 after she heard screaming and discovered that it was coming from her neighbor's chimney.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and were able to free the suspect at around 1:30 pm by lowering ropes down the shaft.
The teen suffered no serious injuries.
Authorities arrested the teen, who faces charges of burglary and giving a false name, according to Reuters. An officer at the scene recognized the suspect from previous offenses and was able to verify that he had lied about his name.
One of the officers at the scene was quoted as saying:
"I worked burglary for almost three years, and I don't recall hearing of one incident like this."
The resident of the home, who works nights, was not at home during the incident.
