Duke University's Coach K hit yet another coaching milestone last night as he surpassed his mentor Bobby Knight for most wins by a college coach.

Last night by defeating Michigan State Coach Mike Krzyzewski or as he is more affectionately referred to as "Coach K." became the winningest basketball coach of all time.
While the victory didn't come in Durham at Cameron Indoor Arena, it did come at Madison Square Garden another historic venue, and his mentor Bobby Knight was broadcasting the game from courtside. Beyond being Krzyzewski's mentor, Knight is also the man that Coach K passed on the all time Division I wins list.
Coach K played for Knight at Army, which so happens to be where Krzyzewski got his start as a coach. Almost 20,000 fans where in attendance including a number of his former players to witness a 74-69 victory.
After the victory Coach K went across the court to hug his mentor. K told him that he loved him saying, "I wouldn't be in this position without him. It's a moment shared. I know he's very proud, and I'm very proud to have been somebody who's worked under him and studied him and tried to be like him" according to ESPN.
The retired Coach Knight hugged him back before putting his hands on his pupil's shoulders saying, "Boy, you've done pretty good for a kid who couldn't shoot."
The Duke players made sure they would bring home the victory shooting just shy of 50% from the field, over 40% from behind the 3-point arch, and 73% from the free throw line.
At the end of the night Michigan State's coach Tom Izzo summed up his evening by saying, "I was in a no-win situation. I was either going to be the guy who threw the ball to Henry Aaron for the record breaker of the guy who shot Bambi."
Coach Krzyzewski has coached for 37 seasons, all but five have been at Duke. To that he adds 4 National Championships, as well as an Olympic Gold medal as a coach and he will be returning as the U.S.A.'s coach for the 2012 London Olympics next year.
