A video of a surfing goat has become an international hit after being picked up by the Today Show and other media outlets around the globe. The footage shows Goatee, a one-year-old goat, learning to surf at California's Grover Beach.
While the video may never gain the viral status of the popular 'fainting goat' video, Dana McGregor's pet nanny goat has her own growing base of fans after clips of her riding a surfboard were posted online.
The video shows Goatee balancing with ease on the board as it skims across the water to shore.
McGregor told KSBY that it was his thirty-third birthday and a calm day on the water, so he decided to let Goatee give it a whirl on the gentle waves.
"She did pretty well. She got up on a couple waves. We put her on a couple waves and she was pretty successful," said McGregor.
McGregor said he has owned Goatee for five months and takes her everywhere he goes including the beach. He said he originally got the goat to clear poison oak and eat weeds from his yard, but a friendship developed with the furry animal and they have been inseparable since.
The goat owner said he didn't expect Goatee's wave riding prowess to become an Internet sensation. But now he receives calls from friends telling him they saw her on television and YouTube.
"I just think it's all hilarious. It's just funny. Going with her everywhere and friends calling me up everywhere and just going, your goats famous" says McGregor who also points out the fame hasn't changed his goat. "You know it hasn't gotten to her head yet. She doesn't even know it and that's probably a good thing."
