Miami - Talks were that the Miami Dolphins had packed it in to get into the Andrew luck sweepstakes, but the past two weeks they have shown some life. As far as the Washington Redskins they put Rex Grossman back in as the starter over John Beck.
The Miami Dolphins (2-7) hosted the Washington Redskins (3-6) for a Week 10 must win game for the Redskins. The Redskins started out atop their division, but has fallen off with a now 5-game losing streak. The Dolphins are looking okay as Reggie Bush is working hard to get the back on track.
Washington got the ball to start the drive and Ryan Torain (11 carries, 20 yards) got the call. Torain started the drive with back-to-back runs, and then Rex Grossman (21/32, 215 yards, 2 Int’s) was sacked for an 11-yard loss. Sav Rocca came on for a 49-yard field-goal, but ended up punting it away.
The Dolphins took over and they started their drive with a direct snap to Daniel Thomas who threw an incomplete pass to Brandon Marshall (7 receptions, 98 yards). Reggie Bush (14 carries, 47 yards 2 TD’s) then had a 2-yard run before Matt Moore (20/29, 209 yards, 1 Int) hit Marshall with a 26-yard pass. Bush then had a 12-yard run, and then caught a 4-yard pass to get a first down. Bush finished the drive with a 1-yard run for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
The Redskins got the ball on the ensuing drive and Grossman got them moving with a 17-yard pass to Leonard Hankerson (8 receptions, 106 yards). Jabar Gaffney (3 receptions, 37 yards) then caught a 20-yard pass from Grossman for back-to-back Redskins firstdowns. After another pass to Hankerson, the drive stalled and they brought Graham Gano in for a 50-yard field-goal that went wide left.
Miami took over, but could not move the ball as they loss 14-yards on two plays. Moore then threw an interception that was picked off by Kevin Barnes. Barnes gave the Redskins great field position after a 30-yard return that put it on the Miami 5-yardline. Torain had three runs in a row with the third one being a touchdown, but it was called back after a holding penalty that nullified it. Washington had to settle for a Gano field-goal that was good from 26-yards out to make it a 7-3 game.
With .49 seconds left in the first quarter, the Dolphins got the ball and Thomas (17 carries, 42 yards) had back-to-back runs to start the drive. Moore then hit Marshall for an 11-yard pass and Anthony Fasano (3 receptions, 60 yards) for a 28-yard pass. The drive then stalled and Dan Carpenter came on for a 21-yard field-goal that was good, making it a 10-3 game.
Washington tried to move the ball down the field with Torain using his legs. The big gains came on Grossman passes to David Anderson for his only catch of 14-yards, and Logan Paulsen’s only catch of 16-yards. Grossman dropped back to throw another pass, and Vontae Davis picked it off and returned it 28-yards before being pushed out of bounds.
Bush had two runs in a row for minimal gains, and then Moore hit Marshall for a 15-yard pass. The drive then came to a halt after that and Carpenter came on for another field-goal. Carpenter lined up for a 49-yard field-goal, and it was no good as it went wide left.
Grossman and the Redskins got the ball back with 3:23 to go in the half. Grossman connected with Hankerson for a 12-yard pass, and then hit Fred Davis (3 receptions, 28 yards) for a 16-yard gain. Washington could not move the ball any further as they loss 3-yards on a pass play. Gano came on and made a 47-yard field-goal to make it a 10-6 game.
The Dolphins got the ball to start the second half, but Moore was sacked on the second play of the drive and fumbled. Ryan Kerrigan came in for the sack and forced fumble, and Stephen Bowen recovered it for the Redskins.
Washington took over and Grossman used his arm to get the drive going. Grossman hit Hankerson and Gaffney for 10-yard gains. Davis then loss 6-yards on a pass play before Hankerson caught another pass for 10-yards. With it being 4th and 5, Gano came on to kick a 23-yard field-goal which made it a one-point game, 10-9.
Moore and the Dolphins took over and moved the ball down the field. Moore hit Davone Bess (4 receptions, 37 yards) for a 23-yard gain. Moore and Marshall then connected again, but this one went for 26-yards. With the drive stalling after that, Carpenter came on and kicked in a 28-yard field-goal to make it a 13-9 game.
Both teams traded punts to end the third quarter, but the Redskins had the ball going into the fourth quarter. Grossman hit Hankerson for a 22-yard gain, but on the next play Grossman threw another interception. Karlos Dansby picked off the Grossman pass and returned it 14-yards.
Moore started the drive with a pass to Marshall for 12-yards. Moore then hit Fasano for an 11-yard and 21-yard pitch and catch. Moore then went back to Marshall for another 12-yard gain as they moved the ball 81-yards on this drive. After the catch Bush had a 2-yard run and then an 18-yard run for his second touchdown of the day. The touchdown made it a 20-9 game and ended the scoring giving the Dolphins their second victory in as many games.
