Junior Dos Santos ended up defeating Cain Velasquez on Saturday. As a result, Dos Santos became the UFC heavyweight champion.
On Saturday, the UFC made its debut on FOX, and the main event was Junior Dos Santos VS Cain Velasquez. Dos Santos won the fight, becoming the new champion.
Fox Sports reports that Velasquez got dropped on the first round, after getting hit with a sharp right. Dos Santos then started to strike Velasquez with more punches and the fight was stopped at 1:04 of round one.
This was a long-awaited debut on FOX, according to the Vancouver Sun. Dos Santos showed the world just how much of a powerful puncher he is, and in the process he gave Velasquez his first loss. Velasquez was undefeated before fighting Dos Santos.
After Dos Santos won the fight, he looked as if he was holding back tears. His overall record is now 14-1.
Velasquez ended up apologizing to his fans, viewers and family after losing the fight, according to Yahoo Sports.
Junior Dos Santos will have some time off because he is not set to face an opponent yet. Brock Lesnar will face Alistair Overeem next month, and the winner of that fight will most likely go on and fight Dos Santos.
