Ramsgate - British authorities have launched an investigation into the identity of a young man caught on CCTV swinging a cat by its tail. The act of animal cruelty has caught the attention of the RSPCA who ask witnesses to come forward to assist investigators.
The disturbing video shows the man turning wildly in circles as he swings the cat around in the air at arm-length in front of the Camden Arms Pub in Ramsgate, Kent, according to the Telegraph.
Michelle Buchanan, owner of the two-year-old cat named Mowgli, said the feline managed to escape the torture and "returned home in a very distressed state". She says he shows no signs of physical injury but is "mentally scarred" by the abuse. Buchanan added the cat has not gone outside since the incident. "Now, he'll go as far as the door and turn back. He used to be outside constantly. He'd be scratching at the window," she said, reports the Associated Press.
Buchanan told the Telegraph, "I can't believe anybody could be so cruel as to harm any sort of animal. It's just really really sad that somebody found pleasure out of doing that."
The RSPCA is pleading with local residents to provide them with the identity of the cat's abuser, who could face fines or jail time for his act of animal cruelty.
RSPCA Inspector Caroline Doe said, "This was a very violent, nasty attack on a cat. Anyone who witnessed this outside the pub must have been as shocked and appalled as we were. We are hoping that someone will recognise this man and come forward so we can investigate this fully."
The surveillance video has been posted on YouTube in an effort to nab the man for responsible for terrorizing the cat.
