By Oscar Brooks     Nov 9, 2011 in Sports
Long time Penn State University head football coach Joe Paterno has been fired. This stemmed from the sexual molestation charges filed against former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.
Media outlets Fox, ESPN and MSNBC have reported that Penn State University head football coach Joe Paterno has been fired. Tom Bradley takes over as interim head coach. Paterno told the team earlier today that he was retiring at the end of the season. However, the university decided that now was the time to relieve him of his duties.
The statement from the Pennsylvania State University Board of Trustees said, "The Pennsylvania State University Board of Trustees and Graham Spanier have decided that, effective immediately, Dr. Spanier is no longer president of the University. Additionally, the board determined that it is in the best interest of the University for Joe Paterno to no longer serve as head football coach, effective immediately". Paterno was head coach at the University for 46 seasons. He was also the winning-est coach in college football history.
