article imageU.S. and Israel invent conspiracies out of fear, says Ahmadinejad

Cairo - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran has said the U.S. and Israel are inventing conspiracies to discredit Tehran because they fear Iran's growing military power and influence, and are worried about Iran's improving relationship with Saudi Arabia.
The The Jerusalem Post reports that President Ahmadinejad, in an interview the Egyptian state-owned Al-Akhbar newspaper, said:
"...we have military capabilities that are different from any other country in the region...Iran is increasing in capability and advancement and therefore we are able to compete with Israel and the West and especially the United States...The US fears Iran's capability...Iran will not permit a move against it."
The U.S. has never denied that it is worried about Iran's growing military power and influence in the region. The Jerusalem Post reports that a senior U.S. military official said on Friday that "Iran has become the biggest threat to the United States." Israel's President has also said that a military strike to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons was "nearer."
President Ahmadinejad, in the interview with Egyptian daily Al-Akbar, once again denied the allegation that Iran has nuclear weapons. Ahramonline.org, however, reports the Iranian president said he was sure "Israel's end was near."
President Ahmadinejad said U.S. portrayal of Iran, Syria, Hamas and Hezbollah as "Axis of Evil" is unfair:
"It is Israel that has about 300 nuclear warheads. Iran is only keen to have nuclear capability for peaceful means."
Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, according to Iran's FARS News Agency, has also said there are no links between Iran's missile testing and it's nuclear program. The Foreign Minster criticized U.S. and Israel for making threats to attack Iran and called on the international community to condemn the two countries. The Iranian ambassador to Uruguay Hojjatolla Soltani, also said:
“The UN, by condemning Israel and the US, will have to prove to all that the world belongs to all countries and nations, and is not in the hands of only a few states.”
President Ahmadinejad, in the Al-Akhbar interview, reacted to the recent U.S. allegation that Iran hatched a plot to kill the Saudi Arabian ambassador in Washington:
"Iran is farthest from thinking of carrying out such crimes but the US is always inventing conspiracies against Iran...The U.S. fears any friendship between us and Saudi Arabia and therefore incites disagreements...To stop the US in its tracks we must deepen the elements of friendship...We are ready for this and the relation between Saudi and Iran already exists and has not been cut off."
