NBA star Kobe Bryant dropped by the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood Thursday to visit his friend Manny Pacquiao while training with coach Freddie Roach for his November 12 date with Mexican counter-puncher Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas
Pacquiao's association with the L.A. Lakers star dates back to their promotional takes and endorsements of Nike sportswear where they are both prime endorsers for many years.
Bryant has been a long-time supporter of Manny Pacquiao and makes it a point to visit his friend whenever he can while preparing for a major fight.
According to Pacquiao's adviser Michael Koncz, the L.A. Lakers star spent about an hour at the Gym watching Pacquiao train for next Saturday's fight in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao is set to face Juan Manuel Marquez for the third time on November 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev.
Marquez, who was reported to have gained a lot of weight under his new strength and conditioning coach, said he is confident he will beat Pacquiao in their third encounter.
Pacquiao, who is reported to be facing unbeaten Floyd Mayweather on May 5, said he will try to give fans a good fight and will go for a knock out when opportunity arises.
Pacquiao and Marquez have fought twice in the past eight years. Their first encounter was in 2004 which ended in a draw. They fought again in a rematch in 2008 with Pacquiao winning via split decision.
In their first fight, Marquez suffered three knockdowns and on the second fight Marquez again was knocked down by Pacquiao in the third round.
In both fights, Marquez claims he was the clear winner on points but alleged that he was cheated on the scoreboards.
Pacquiao will conclude his training at the Wild Card Gym on Monday and will proceed to Las Vegas with his entourage for the final phase of his preparation for the big fight on Saturday, November 12.
