New York - Two off-duty NYPD officers were arrested in two separate drunk driving incidents this past Friday morning in Brooklyn and Queens. One officer suffered minor injuries in the incident. Both have been suspended from the police force by NYPD supervision.
Two NYPD cops were arrested early Friday morning in two separate drunk driving incidents that occurred just hours apart from each other. In both incidents the officers involved were off-duty.
According to the New York Daily News, the first incident occurred at 4:30am and involved officer Ariel Rosa, 26. Rosa was arrested on charges of Driving While Intoxicated or DWI after he crashed his vehicle into a parked car on Moffat St. between Knickerbocker and Wilson Avenues in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn.
Rosa suffered minor injuries in the incident and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The officer was arrested at the hospital after a blood test determined him to be drunk.
NYPD officials say that no one else besides Rosa was hurt in the accident.
Rosa, a rookie NYPD officer joined the NYPD in July, 2010. He is assigned to the 81st Precinct in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.
In the second incident, officer Michael Botros, 29, was discovered asleep at 7:40 am Friday inside his white Nissan with the keys still in the ignition in South Ozone Park, Queens.
According to officials, Botros refused to take a Breathalyzer test and was arrested.
Botros is a five-year member of the NYPD. He is assigned to the 17th Precinct in Midtown Manhattan.
The NYPD has suspended both Rosa and Botros without pay for 30 day.
The matter of alcohol has been a persistent problem for the officers of the NYPD and a source of much controversy and misconduct.
This past September, 25 year-old off-duty NYPD rookie officer Luis Arnao was charged with vehicular manslaughter and DWI after he was alleged to have struck and killed pedestrian Tyre Chisholm, 22 with his car while drunk driving in the Wakefield section of Bronx.
While this past August, sloshed off-duty NYPD officer Michael Pena was arrested for the alleged gunpoint rape of a woman he accosted and forced into an alley in upper Manhattan as she made her morning commute to a Bronx school where she worked as a teacher.
