Rockport - A 2004 video that shows a father beating his disabled daughter with a belt has gone viral on the Internet and various news outlets. The recently uploaded clip contains graphic images of physical and emotional abuse and may be disturbing to some viewers.
“Judge William Adams beats daughter for using the Internet” is the latest YouTube video to make the rounds on the Internet, and not for the right reasons.
Backgrounder
The video allegedly shows Aransas County Court-At-Law Judge William Adams beating his daughter with a belt. The daughter, Hillary Adams, who suffers from ataxic cerebral palsy, was downloading music and games from the Internet – she has a passion for technology.
When her father discovered this, he became enraged and punished the young girl by viciously hurting her back, bum and legs with a belt. He threatened several times to hit her in the face. About midway through the video, her mother assisted in the beating, but the daughter noted that she does not blame her for what happened because she was also emotionally abused.
“If I hear so much as you raise your f---ing voice to me, or your mother, in the wrong tone, or you do one little thing, or you look at me f---ing wrong, I’m going to take you in there and wear your f---ing ass out with this belt, you understand me?” said the Texas judge as he went face to face with his daughter, who was coughing and crying. “That’s what it’s come to. Got it? Are you happy? You caused this…”
The mother then came into the room and told the daughter to only use the computer for school work until she was given permission otherwise. The mother also ordered her daughter to sleep on the sofa.

The video was published on Oct. 27 and has generated nearly 500,000 views with close to 9,000 “likes” and more than 5,000 “dislikes.” YouTube users have published supportive comments on the user shoehedgie’s channel – it is unclear if the video was uploaded by Hillary Adams.
The Rockport, Texas Police Department has launched an investigation into the video, according to the International Business Times. The video was launched Monday after the video came to the attention of police officers.
Chief Tim Jayroe told the news outlet that they cannot confirm if the man in the video is actually Judge Adams, but noted that they are working with state agencies.
The Aransas County Courthouse has been flooded with calls and its website has received a lot of traffic. The courthouse issued a press release where they announced that they were aware of the YouTube video.
“Please refrain from communication with County offices or the Sheriff's Department on this matter until the review has been completed,” said the news release. “Calls, emails, and faxes only create disruptions for other ongoing county business. The public's cooperation would be most appreciated.”
A Facebook page called “Don't Re-Elect Judge William Adams” was created a day ago. So far, there are 4,802 likes as of 1:09 p.m. EST.
Update: In an interview with a local CBS News affiliate, Adams admitted that it was him, but "It happened years ago. I apologized." He added: "It's not as bad as it looks on tape."
