article imageVideo: Romanian hooligan punches football player, cracks eardrum

By David Silverberg     Oct 31, 2011 in Sports
A shocking video clip shows a Romanian man running onto the soccer pitch and punching a player in the head, and then is swarmed by the player's teammates before police haul him off the field.
The unprovoked attack occurred at a recent Romanian league match between Petrolul Ploiesti and visiting Steaua Bucharest. When the away side scores to make it 2-0, a fan ran onto the pitch and struck defender George Galamaz in the head. His injury was later discovered to be a cracked eardrum.
The assailant then clashed with Steaua teammates, receiving several kick blows to the face and body. Police quickly intervene and haul off the hooligan. It is unclear if any charges were laid.
Play eventually restarted but the match was later called off by the referee when a flare was thrown onto the pitch, as the Telegraph writes.
The video on LiveLeak has attracted more than 30,00 views at press time. On YouTube, the same clip has garnered more than 43,000 views.
