Acclaimed film star Samuel L. Jackson has just been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest grossing actor of all time. He has netted a total of $7.42 billion over the course of his career.
Jackson is known to be one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood. New York Daily News notes that the 62-year-old actor has appeared in over 100 movies during his career, including 6 movies in 2010, 4 in 2011, and is already set to appear in 3 in 2012.
The star of such movies as "Jungle Fever" and "Pulp Fiction" attributes a lot of his success to his upbringing. He is quoted as saying:
"I grew up in a working class family. When I was a kid, all the adults in my house got up and went to work every day. I assumed that's what grown people do. That's what I do. I just happen to have a very interesting job that's kind of cool!"
Jackson was born in Washington D.C. but was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was active in the Civil Rights Movement in the late 1960's. He later became involved in acting, first appearing in stage productions at Morehouse College. He began acting in movies after meeting director Spike Lee, who cast Jackson in some of his films.
Playbill reports that Jackson is currently starring in the Broadway production of "The Mountaintop" where he plays Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Jackson actually served as one of the ushers during King's funeral following his assassination.
