The latest preview from the new Mission Impossible instalment has just been released. This is the fourth film in the series, and Tom Cruise returns to reprise his role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt.
The new film Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol stars Tom Cruise as the lead IMF agent and follows the last film Mission Impossible III released in 2006. It will be produced by Cruise, Bryan Burk and JJ Abrams (MI3 director) and will be directed by Brad Bird. This will be Bird's first full live action movie after directing Pixar's computer animated films Ratatouille (2007) and The Incredibles (2004).
The majority of the film was shot in Moscow, Mumbai, Prague, Dubai and Vancouver. Its original title was Mission Impossible 4 , and would have followed the title series of the first three films.
There will be two returning cast members: Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell and Simon Pegg as the tech guy Benji Dunn. New cast members include Vladimir Mashkov, Josh Holloway, Paula Patton, Anil Kapoor and Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker). Renner plays Brandt, a fellow IMF agent, and is thought to be groomed as the lead who will replace Cruise in the franchise's future installments. Michael Nyqvist and Samuli Edelmann will play as the film's main villains.
The plot reveals that while IMF agent Ethan Hunt was in Moscow for an undercover operation, a terrorist bomb hit and destroyed the Kremlin. The entire IMF was implicated and was given presidential orders for its complete shut down. A black operation "Ghost protocol" was initiated, where Hunt and the remaining members of his team were allowed to go rogue. They would now have to operate outside the government's command structure, without contact and aid, so they can clear their names from the incrimination of the attack.
Paramount pictures will distribute Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and will preview on December 16, 2011 in IMAX theaters. The worldwide release is on December 21, 2011.
