A new commercial from Nike's Jordan Brand features NBA superstars Dwayne Wade, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony playing basketball in diverse basketball courts.
The new two minute ad from the Jordan Brand subsidiary of sports apparel and shoe company, Nike Inc., features the three endorsers competing in pick-up games in different settings and basketball courts. The latest spot was launched during a commercial break in this week's Monday Night's Football and in game 5 of the 2011 World Series.
The ad opened with Dwayne Wade playing ball in a rooftop for the "Little Havana" team in the Miami Kiwanis Club League, for the "Wolves" in Flamingo Senior Recreational Center League and for the "Sanitation Department" of the Municipal League in Dade County.
Chris Paul came in to play for "St.Charles" team in Nola Inter-Parish league and a team in Bayou Women's League. Carmelo Anthony appeared in the Williamsburg pick-up game, in the Five Star basketball camp and in New York's Jewish under 40 league, where a rabbi watches a group of young hoop players (with yarmulkes) play a basketball game.
The final scene is at the Beijing's Drum Tower Park, where Paul and Anthony team up wearing "Red" against Wade wearing "Blue". The ad ends with the tagline: “Love The Game No Matter What.”
Nike's new basketball commercial came out on the heels of the current lock-out and stand-off between the league owners and players in the NBA.
In 1998, Nike similarly came out with two commercials that speak directly about the lockout of the 98'-99' NBA season. The ads featured actor Samuel L. Jackson and film-maker Spike Lee, with a tagline in the end of the two spots that says "Start the season. Hurry."
