article imageAnonymous hacking group vows to take down Fox News site

By Kim I. Hartman     Oct 25, 2011 in Internet
Anonymous has released a video message announcing the beginning of Operation Fox Hunt, a hacking campaign that will target Fox News for “continued propaganda” against the Occupy Wall Street movement and its participants.
Anonymous promises it “intends on destroying the Fox News website” and warns "we will also engage in a propaganda campaign of our own to show them how it feels to be chastised."
Anonymous has voiced their displeasure with Fox's coverage of the Wall Street Occupation and have singled out news hosts Sean Hannity, BIll O'Reilly, and Glenn Beck for their coverage of the 'Occupy' protests across the nation.
The group has chosen November 5, known as Guy Fawkes Day, memorialized in the movie 'V is for Vendetta', as the day of their attack on the Fox News website. In the movie the freedom-loving Fawkes character wears the mask that has become a symbol for the secretive hacktivist group.

Hawkes was captured by the British government in 1604, on the fifth of November, while attempting to blow up Parliament, in what is known as the Gunpowder Plot.
To mark the coming Nov. 5, Anonymous released a message Oct. 22, posted on YouTube and their Twitter account, that states in full:
“Citizens of the world and the Internet, We are Anonymous. Fox News is now the target of Anonymous because of their continued propaganda against the Occupations. Those such as Sean Hannity are attacking the credentials as well as the character of the Occupiers at Wall Street, and this can no longer be allowed. Anonymous introduces Operation Fox Hunt. Anonymous intends on destroying the Fox News website because their continued right-wing conservative propaganda can no longer be tolerated. They use words such as filthy, disgusting and dirty to describe the protesters. Since they will not stop belittling the Occupiers, we will shut them down. On November 5th, we ask those who are able to commence attacks on Fox News. Anonymous will not only shut down Fox News, we will also engage in a propaganda campaign of our own to show them how it feels to be chastised. Fox News, your time has come. Operation Fox Hunt: November 5th, may the hunt begin. Anonymous. We are legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.”
News Corpse said, in their take on the cyber-vigilantes, "While we can’t condone actions that disrupt web site operations, Fox News certainly deserves to be chastised for their blatant misrepresentation and bias with regard to the Occupy movement (and pretty much everything else they put on the air). Their standard approach to reporting is to slander those with whom they disagree with puerile insults and character assassination."
Anonymous claims Fox News has taken every advantage possible by delivering news in an unfair and unbalanced way following a decision by the Florida Court of Appeals in Fox's favor that said "there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States." They claim Fox News has since taken every advantage of that ruling and continue to spread the news in a clearly biased fashion.
Fox News employees were recently reminded by Kevin Magee, executive vice president of the News corporation, "to put the focus back on business news" after wading too deep into political waters, as reported by Digital Journal. Magee said they were losing focus on their business news agenda by mixing economics with politics.
