Houston - With Andre Johnson and Mario Williams missing for the Houston Texans, it seemed like the Texans may miss a beat. They have came back this week a got a big win against a hot Tennessee Titans team.
The Tennessee Titans (3-3) hosted the Houston Texans (4-3) in a Week 7 matchup that had to be a win for either franchise to keep their-self relevant in the playoff race. The Titans have been riding the arm of Matt Hasselbeck while waiting for running back Chris Johnson to show up this season. As for the Texans, with Andre Johnson down, they have been letting Arian Foster carry the load on the ground and through the air.
Houston got the ball to start the game and Foster (25 carries, 115 yards, 2 TD’s) began with three straight runs for 7-yards. The Texans went three and out and was forced to punt the ball away to the Titans.
The Titans started their drive after the punt with back-to-back handoffs to Chris Johnson (10 carries, 18 yards) for 3-yards. Tennessee got a first down off a penalty, but the drive stalled and they were forced to punt the ball away.
At the 8:43 mark after the teams traded punts the Texans finally got the offense going as they moved the ball 67-yards in 13 plays. Foster and Ben Tate (15 carries, 104 yards) got the ball rolling on the ground. It was 2nd and 27 for the Texans and Foster had a 13-yard run to get the Texans in range for a field-goal. Neil Rackers came on and kicked a 32-yard field-goal to put the first points of the game on the board 3-0.
Tennessee got the ball back and began to move the ball through the air with Matt Hasselbeck (14/30, 104 yards, 1 TD, 2 Int’s). Hasselbeck hit Johnson with a 17-yard pass to get a first down. Hasselbeck later connected with Nate Washington for his only catch of the game for 10-yards and another first down. Hasselbeck dropped back on his next pass and threw a pass that was intercepted by Danieal Manning.
The Texans took over after the turnover and Matt Schaub (18/23, 296, 2 TD’s) as he started with a 34-yard pass to Owen Daniels (4 receptions, 71 yards). Foster than had a run of 7-yards and 10-yards to keep the drive going for the Texans. Schaub finished the drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Joel Dreessen (2 receptions, 31 yards, 1 TD) to make it 10-0 game.
The Titans struggled on their next drive as well and was forced to punt the ball away back to the Texans. Houston took no time in scoring on their next drive as they went 94-yard in four plays. Schaub hit Walter with an 8-yard pass, and later hit Foster (5 receptions, 119 yards, 1 TD) 78-yard pass that went for a Texans touchdown and a 17-0 lead.
With 1:52 left to go in the half the Texans got the ball back after a punt and they oved the ball 37-yards. Schaub moved the ball with passes to Daniels, Walter and Foster to move the Texans into field-goal range. With time running out Rackers came on to kick his second field-goal which was from 29-yards out and made it a 20-0 lead going into halftime.
Tennessee got the ball to start the second half and still could not move the ball and was forced to punt the ball away again. The Texans took over and got their offense in motion with a 20-yard pass from Schaub to Walter. Foster broke a 17-yard run to move the ball, and then Tate came in a broke a 17-yard run of his own. Tate then ran for 24-yards as the ground game was clicking for the Texans. Foster finished the 92-yard drive for the Texans with 1-yard run to make it a 27-0 lead.
With 9:06 left to go in the third quarter the Titans finally got their offense moving with Javon Ringer (3 carries, 31 yards) breaking off a 17-yard run to start the drive. Ringer later broke off a 25-yard run to keep the drive going. Hasselbeck finished the drive off with a 5-yard pass to Jared Cook (2 receptions, 22 yards, 1 TD). The Titans were finally on the board with to make it a 27-7 game.
The Texans got the ball to start the fourth quarter and Foster and Tate did most of the damage on the ground. Houston moved the ball 31-yards on this drive and Foster finished the drive with a 5-yard run this time for a touchdown. The Texans now took a 34-7 lead.
On the next drive the Titans took the ball over and on the second play of the drive Hasselbeck threw another interception. Brice McCain picked off the pass for the Texans and returned it 38-yards for a touchdown. The return gave the Texans a 41-7 lead and that was the end of the scoring for the game.
The Titans took out Hasselbeck and put in Jake Locker who only threw one pass for 12-yards.
