article imageBaby Lisa's parents argue that cadaver dogs aren't always right

Kansas City - Attorneys for the parents of missing 11-month-old Lisa Irwin are slamming a report that police cadaver dogs picked up the scent of a dead person in the family home. They argue that the canine's intelligence could be shaky.
Attorney Cyndy Short said on "Good Morning America" Saturday that she doesn't trust any evidence uncovered by a dog.
"My understanding is that there are cold cases where dogs have hit on scents of decomposition that have been in the home for as long as 28 years, This is an old home. Sixty-three years old. There could be a lot of other explanations for that."
But a former FBI agent who also appeared on the same show, definitely does not agree.
"In studies done of cadaver dogs where the dog has direct access to the scent and it's reasonably fresh – it's above 90 percent,"
The New York Daily News reports that the affidavit revealing that cadaver dogs were used surfaced in a court filing from police asking for a search warrant for the Kansas City home of Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin. According to the request, Bradley and Irwin limited the police to search only certain areas of their home.
But the report, according to ABC news, also says that
"A more extensive and intrusive search needs to be completed at the property where the baby was last accounted."
Police continue to examine a strange statement made by Bradley when Lisa first went missing. She told them, she did not want to look
"for her baby behind the house because she was afraid of what she might find,"
The affidavit also reveals that inconsistent stories from "people involved" may have hampered the early stages of the investigation. It reads,
"Investigative interviews with the people involved revealed conflicting information for clear direction in the investigation."
Three people told police that they saw a man carrying a diapered baby in the cold weather on the same night she is supposed to have disappeared.
