The parents of comedian Rosie O'Donnell's new girlfriend Michelle Rounds are not very pleased about their union,
"It's been hard to take."
The New York Daily News
reports that Rounds parents say they had no idea until now that she dated women. And it goes without saying that for a lesbian, coming out to one's parents is doubly shocking when it's done in an entertainment spotlight.
Michelle's father, Roger Rounds told the National Enquirer,
"It totally hit us out of left field. We only found out about Michelle liking girls when all this came out about them a few weeks ago."
The two met during the summer when they both turned up at the same coffee shop.
O'Donnell said on a recent ABC Nightline show,
"I walked into a Starbucks in the summer and she was holding a little puppy,"
The 49-year O'Donnell says she struck up a conversation about dogs with the 40-year old Michelle about how she was looking for a second one because she had just moved to Chicago to film her new talk show.
The comedian noted she really had no intention of picking up Rounds when she first met her because,
"I thought she was a 28-year-old heterosexual girl because that's what she looked like to me."
But that apparently was not the case and the two have been seen together since in New York and Chicago, and O'Donnell just told Howard Stern that she's met Michelle's parents and they're thinking about getting married.
But Michelle's dad says that is not true.
"I've never met the woman – and I have no real desire to at this point."
He failed to mention that his wife did meet Rosie and wasn't thrilled either.
"This has been a painful experience for me and my wife. We'd always held out hope that Michelle would eventually find a nice guy to marry, settle down and have kids. And now this – it's pretty shocking stuff for us to digest."
