Toronto - A doctor who has admitted that he stalked famed superstar Shania Twain has been denied bail after asking to be freed until his next court appearance.
USA Today reports that Giovanni (John) Palumbo had asked to be freed while he awaits his next court day on Nov. 15, but his request was denied Wednesday saying the release plan for Palumbo was not sufficient.
According to The Washington Post, last month Palumbo pleaded guilty to criminal harassment by watching and besetting and one count of failure to comply with a court order. He pleaded guilty to the crimes after hearing testimony from Twain.
After Justice Richard Schneider reached the conclusion to deny him bail, Palumbo who had been an animated presence throughout the trial, swore under his breath before shouting at the court.
“You know you’re all very sick, you really are — it’s so sad,” Palumbo said. “Have fun, because I’m going to keep having fun, wherever I am. ... What a bunch of psychopaths. Woo hoo.
“Shame, shame, shame. Shame on all of you!”
According to She Knows, prosecution lawyer John Flaherty requested that Palumbo undergo some psychiatric evaluation before sentencing. While Dr. Helen Ward's report concludes that Palumbo suffers from bipolar disorder and narcissistic personality disorder, she also found him criminally responsible for his action.
Last month, Twain testified via video link and detailed the numerous love letters Palumbo had mailed to her home in Ontario and Switzerland and discussed her fear and vulnerability conjured by his unwanted visits.
He was spotted at her family cottage, her grandmother's funeral and at the Juno Awards in March, where he was taken into custody and has remained in custody since then.
