Surprise - An unidentified 72-year-old woman was viciously attacked as she sat in front of her home Monday night in Surprise, Arizona.
Reports from AZCentral, Topix and ABC15 say that EMT responded to the scene about 8:00 p.m. Monday at the 15000 block of West Jackpot Way.
The dogs had apparently escaped from a fenced yard down the street and attacked the victim, biting her several times on her arms, legs and shoulders, said Sgt. Mark Ortega a Surprise Police Department spokesman. The victim was transported by helicopter to John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital in Phoenix where she is listed in serious but stable condition.
A neighbor was also bitten while trying to help the victim and was taken to a local hospital for injuries. Another neighbor, who is an off-duty Phoenix police officer, shot and killed both the dogs, Ortega stated.
It isn't clear if the owner of the dogs will be charged; the animals will be taken to a state laboratory for rabies testing.
