article imageiPad covers made from the Madoff's old clothes are selling well

By Jacki Viles     Oct 4, 2011 in Lifestyle
Talk about selling the clothes right off your back! John Vaccaro of Frederick James is doing just that. But not just anyone’s clothes. These are Bernie Madoff’s duds.
That’s right. Last November the U.S. Marshall Service auctioned off Madoff’s personal possessions to fund the many victims of the convicted felon’s Ponzi scheme. Vacarro purchased the clothing at auction.
Last year Vaccaro launched a web site selling eco friendly iPad covers and was on the look out for fashionable durable materials. In an interview with CNN Money
Vaccaro told the story of how a friend left their cashmere sweater at his house lying next to his iPad. Feeling the soft silky material he felt it may make a good cover. When he saw cashmere sweaters listed on the Madoff auction ad in the paper, he thought it would be a good idea for his new line and a good way to help the Madoff victims.

After winning the bid he hired a designer and got to work on the new line. The Bernie Madoff Collection iPad covers sell for between $250 and $500 and come in a variety of prints and fabrics. A letter of authenticity and a copy of the original auction receipt can be provided on request.
Lawyers and bankers appear to be the target market. But even as the Wall Streeters find themselves unable to shake loose of the world’s financial worries, these novelty items are flying off the shelf!
There was a disclaimer on the web site that these covers are not intended to protect your iPad in any way. However, as of this moment the first run has been sold out. There is a waiting list for the next batch. Just in time for the holidays!
