People came from as far away as South Africa to be part of the rally to stop the cuts in downtown Toronto Monday evening. The event's official start was at 5:30 p.m. but the grass was filled with residents who are fighting to save services that matter? to the population of Toronto.
Since Mayor Rob Ford took office with campaign promises of cutting the gravy the city's services have come under fire. An outside consulting firm, KPMG, was hired to review the services within the city for over $3 million dollars. Their findings came back with cuts from many of the social service areas that make Toronto the city it is.
Closing libraries and zoos to merging the Toronto Fire Service with the Toronto EMS while laying off firefighters, EMS and police officers were some of the suggestions that have been proposed.
