A 10-year-old boy shot his teacher and then killed himself at a school in São Caetano do Sul, a district of São Paulo. The tragedy took place on Thursday shorty after lunch hour.
Robinson Mastropil, the captain of the 6th Battalion of military police of São Caetano do Sul, told reporters that the child asked permission to go to the bathroom and when he returned to the classroom repeatedly shot the teacher and then shot himself twice in the head.
Officer Mastropil indicated that the weapon belongs to the student's father, a policeman of the city of São Caetano do Sul. The authorities are investigating how the weapon, a .38 caliber revolver, came into the hands of the child, reports O Globo (in Portuguese).
Witnesses said the boy had mentioned on Wednesday to some of his classmates that he would shoot and kill the teacher. He did not mention a reason. There is no record that the boy suffered from bullying or had any kind of disorder. According to teachers, he was a quiet child, a good student and had no discipline problems.
The teacher Ms. Rosileide Queiros de Oliveira, 38, was taken to Hospital das Clinicas in Sao Paulo, where she underwent surgery to remove a bullet in the hip and according to the medical bulletin she is out of danger, according to Folha de S.P. (in Portuguese)
The school was immediately closed for the remainder of the week.
