article imageLatest Toy Hall of Fame Inductee finalists announced

By Andrew Majewski     Sep 20, 2011 in Entertainment
This year's finalists for induction into the Toy Hall of Fame in Rochester, NY were announced last week. With only two toys inducted per year, it makes for some tough competition. Hasbro brand toys had six of the twelve nominees.
What toys will follow last years inductees? According to the Toy Hall of Fame website, the following are criteria that need to be met to be nominated ...
- Icon Status
- Longevity
- Discovery
- Innovation
Based on that criteria the following 12 toys have been nominated for induction this year.
Dungeons & Dragons
Star Wars action figures
Hot Wheels
Pogo Stick
Rubik's Cube
R/C vehicles
In all, 46 toys have been inducted to the Toy Hall of Fame. The first induction of eleven toys was made in 1998 with classics like Monopoly, Crayola Crayons, and the Frisbee. All inducted toys can be found on the Toy Hall of Fame website.
Hot Wheels are long overdue for induction. The first Hot Wheels vehicle was introduced in 1968 and have been played with and provided entertainment to millions of children in that time period. My other choice would be Rubik's Cube. The name itself is iconic. Besides, don't we all like to be reminded of the countless hours we spent trying to figure it out, only to peel off the stickers and re stick them in the proper places?
The nominees will be voted on and the two finalists will be announced in time for the induction ceremony on Thursday, November 10 2011.
