article imageOp-Ed: NFL — Bronco fans still want Tebow, but Coaches still say NO!

By Austin Tyler     Sep 16, 2011 in Sports
Denver - When it come to fans that can be so many things from, loyal, honest, spirited, awesome, or many other positive things, but in this case they are just being naïve. Tim Tebow is a great guy with awesome quarterback, but don’t let that fool you.
Tim Tebow’s resume from college is superior to most, but in this case we are no talking about college productivity we are talking about it translating over to the NFL. We can talk about Timothy Richard Tebow in any way shape or form when it comes to the college game, but in the NFL he has not proven much.
Josh McDaniels who was the former Denver Broncos coach took a chance on Tebow by taking him in the first round with the 25th pick as all the NFL draft experts predicted hi to be a late third to maybe second day pick. The issue with Tebow was his throwing motion which was worked on a little, but when it came down to it, it always went back to the motion he is used to.
They say the SEC is the closes thing to get players ready for the NFL, but when you look a college football in general they produce athletes that don’t pan out as well as other conferences. To me right there is not a reason to quickly put Tebow in the driver seat. Is Tebow one of those players, well in the three games he did play as a starter last year he was 1-2
record wise and stats wise he was 41-82, 654 yards, 5 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. The only thing we can say excelled at was the rushing game where he rushed 43 times for 227 yards and 6 touchdowns with 1 fumble but it was not lost.
The Denver fans are asking the Denver coaching staff to start Tebow over Kyle Orton who is the starter for the Broncos. Orton is now 11-18 as the Broncos starter, but has had to deal with the defense that they are trying to revamp and offensive line that could no protect cup from getting rain in it with their hand over the glass. Orton was sacked 34 times last year and the defense gave was good, but still struggled to find a grove.
Did the lockout effect Tebow in camp hurt him to a certain extent because he could not get all the training he was getting before, yes. You still have to produce and fans are not at every practice and they are not watching with regular glasses on. Tim Tebow is third on the depth chart after being second last year. Tebow has dropped behind Brady Quinn who many thought would be behind Tebow at the start of the season. Yet fans are still calling him to play, when has
a third string quarterback ever started a game with the first two quarterbacks healthy, never.
The fans talked about putting up a billboard to try and encourage Head Coach John Fox to put Tebow in the game. He had this to say about the bright idea from the fans
Well, I've seen a lot of billboards and I can't remember one that really influenced me.
It is the coaches job to coach and the fans job to support the team in any way shape or form, but sometimes people think they are better than what they are. Like they always say
If doing that was easy, then everyone would do it. Coaching is not an easy job with they have to evaluate and make cuts to keep a roster together and then encourage them to go out and give him their all. The Broncos happen to lose the game by only three points this past Monday night, and last time I checked that is not a blowout. Yes, Kyle Orton made some mistakes in the game, but the coaches feel he is their best option to win the game and will continue to start him.
As for Tebow he did the best public relations job he can do in this situation and that is stay humble.
Well, I guess I appreciate the support, you know, but we got people in charge here that we trust and (I) trust they're going to do the right thing.
As far as the billboard that fans were going to waste $10,000 on, he said that he would rather them donate the money to his charity.
As fans you can be all the above, but in the end you have to have perspective. Not all players translate over from the college ranks to the NFL. College numbers do not make you a great NFL player, and just because a player went to a big name school does not make him the best player either. Just ask Jerry Rice who is considered the best NFL receiver to ever put pads on. It is about production in the NFL, not the hype you come in with.
