article imageNFL: Peterson gets extension with Vikings worth $100 million

Minneapolis - With the lockout over it seems as if owners are looking to lockup their ‘moneymakers’ long-term now. It began with Larry Fitzgerald, then DeAngelo Williams, then Chris Johnson and now the Viking lockup Peterson.
The Minnesota Viking has given Adrian Peterson a six-year extension worth $100 million that includes $36 million in guaranteed. Peterson will receive $40 million over the first three years of the new extension. This extension has come on the end of his rookie contract which ended this year that would give him $10.72 million this year. Peterson’s new deal will keep him with the organization to 2017 when he will be 32-years-old.
Peterson has earned this deal with his play as he has rushed for 1,000 plus yards in every season since he came in the NFL. This is why the Viking gave him a chance to earn $1 million each time he rushes for at least 1,250 yards in a season. In 2007 against the San Diego Chargers, Peterson set the NFL single-game rushing record with 296 yards. He also made the Pro Bowl that year and every year after as well.
As of right now Peterson is second in rushing with 5,782 yards for the Viking’s organization behind Robert Smith who rushed for 6,818 yards. Since entering the NFL in 2007, Peterson is the leading player with rushing attempts (1,198), rushing yards (5,782), touchdowns (52) and tied for100-yard rushing games (24).
Peterson did not holdout or doing anything most star players did, he just let his agent take care of the business aspect and kept working. Peterson said this about just being there through his agent Ben Dogra.
Look, I'm under contract. I'm just going to play. He never contemplated holding out. He understands the business side of things. He's very smart like that. He only knows one speed in life, and that's all out. That's why they call him, 'All Day.'
Owner Zygi Wilf had this to say about Peterson staying with the Vikings’ organization
Adrian's performances on the field have given fans so much excitement since he first joined us as a rookie. His talent and determination are remarkable and we are proud to have him be a part of the family for years to come.
Peterson thanked God, his family, the Vikings and their fans for their support, on Twitter. He also said Can't wait to get a ring and finish my career in Minn.
