Benton - Benton city officials announce the death of Benton Louisiana mayor Albert Doughty who died Thursday of a kidney disease.
Benton Louisiana mayor Albert Doughty 75, passed away Thursday after he had been battling a kidney disease.
Doughty was a parish agent for the LSU Cooperative Extension Service when he was appointed mayor of Benton after the resignation of Lynne Mascagni resigned from office in July 2004. The reason for Mascagni's resignation is unkwown.
The town council will appoint interm mayor to finish Doughty's mayoral term. Town clerk official Stephanie Sullivant said a special election will be held to elect a mayor on March 24, 2012.
