Big Boi - real name Antwan Patton - was caught by customs and border patrol dogs after returning from a cruise in the Caribbean.
The 36-year-old was
charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance, while bail was set at $16,000.
He was booked into Miami-Dade County jail
around 1.30pm.
Shortly after the arrest, his attorney gave this
statement: "While Big Boi was travelling with his group and friends, a small amount of contraband was found in the collective luggage. I am confident when the entire facts are aired Big Boi will be completely exonerated."
During the cruise, the rapper
tweeted: "The energy from the Ocean is proving to be great for writing. They playing Mini Golf on the upper deck."
Big Boi's next
album is entitled
Daddy Fat Sax: Soul Funk Crusader, which is set to be released later this year.
