Lima - The Peruvian National Police seized 180 human skulls that were used in magic rituals and started an investigation on the shaman that was using them during healing and spiritism sessions.
Colonel Carlos M. Gómez, head of the Division of Criminal Investigations (DIRINCRI) said that the skulls were found at a dwelling on Tacna Avenue in downtown Lima. At this location they also found some sort of an altar, where the skulls had been placed and displayed.
During the police operation the alleged “healer” identified as Augusto Cisneros Quispecondori, 31, was detained and placed under investigation to determine the origin of the large number of skulls found in his possession. It has been determined that Cisneros was running a “Black Magic” business charging customers the equivalent of 18 to 37 dollars for consultations on a variety of personal problems ranging from health and love to financial difficulties.
The police also confiscated goods lacking required health certification that were sold to people who came requesting the shamanic services of Cisneros. The materials included small bags containing “Dead People’s Soil” obtained from cemeteries, 25 small boxes bearing the inscription "Flying Pepper", 10 boxes marked as "Seller powder", 11 boxes of "Exile and Humiliation" stuff and 10 boxes of "Desperation Dust".
Peruvian legislation establishes that those who are found guilty of actions "insulting the memory of the dead" and “profiting by purchasing, selling, importing, exporting, or transporting organs or parts of corpses" are punishable with three to six years of imprisonment, according to a report of BBC Mundo (in Spanish).
In the historic center of Lima, just a few blocks from the Government Palace, there are streets where “healers” offer passing-by pedestrians what they call "magic potions" which can be used to resolve all sort of personal problems.
