article imageOp-Ed: Lingerie Basketball League making waves in Los Angeles

By Christopher Bates     Aug 2, 2011 in Sports
Los Angeles - While the LA Lakers usually attract thousands of basketball fanatics in the state of California, they now have some serious competition - the Lingerie Basketball League (LBL).
The stars of the LBL may wear very little clothing, but they aren't just a collection of pretty figures. Several of the women are former players at some of the most prestigious colleges across the United States.
The LBL consists of four teams - LA Beauties, LA Divas, LA Glam and LA Startlets.
Each game is contested over two 20-minute halves, with three minutes for overtime should it be required.
The LBL's regular season concludes in early September, although the date of the championship game is yet to be announced.
It is understood that the idea stems from the Lingerie Football League (LFL) - the creation of Mitch Mortaza. Since it's inception in 2009, the LFL now boasts 12 teams spread across two conferences.
Judging from the LFL's successful cable TV deal, the sky's certainly the limit for the LBL.
